The Royal Pets of Versailles

Louise Boisen Schmidt's blog "This is Versailles" did a very interesting article on the animals that the French royal families kept in Versailles throughout history. It is truly fascinating to learn about how animals have been alongside man for centuries and aided even the most noble of man.

Schmidt starts the article by explaining, "Versailles was not only inhabited by people but also by animals. Pets were quite common among the nobility and the royal family had the luxury of been able to fully indulge in their passion for their pets" ("Dogs, Cats, Parrots: Pets at Versailles").
